Roots to Rock show swept through four Australian cities in July this year, and by all measures the show was a huge success!

The concept of this free two-hour concert is ‘a trip through musical history’, achieved primarily through showcasing the evolving musical styles from acoustic roots music, to early rock’n’roll, and onward to modern rock.

The musical journey started out with Mike Lewis (FMIC Vice President of Product Marketing),
Rod McCormack and Michel Rose cruising through gentle toe tapping tunes like Coconut Grove, Waiting For The Sun to Shine andthe more up-tempo bluegrass number Dear Old Dixie.

Shortly after, the rest of the band joined them onstage as we reached the birth of
Rock 'N' Roll music. Santo and Johnny’s Sleepwalk was a highlight, as well as a fretboard burning version of Chet & Lester’s Avalon. The night reached a high point with two Beatles tunes, and then coming to a close with a raucous version of
Neil Youngs - Rockin’ in the free world and ACDC'S - Highway to Hell!

The music on its own was outstanding, with the band being made up of some of Australia’s finest country and rock musicians, but for many people it was the narrative between songs that provided the most enlightening moments. Mike Lewis told how and why each of the instruments – banjo, resonator, ukulele, electric guitar - came to be, and what defines their unique sound.

One lucky audience member even took home a Gretsch Acoustic Rancher signed by Chris Cheney from The Living End!

There was plenty of hands-on action after the show, with time to check out all the instruments, ask questions and mingle with the band.

Feedback from the show has been overwhelmingly positive – and all the band and crew are looking forward to taking it on the road again next year.
